Well they certainly didn’t call it the Chiltern “Hills” challenge for nothing!
On Saturday 27 July a team of 12 from Lime Blue with some family and friends took on the 50k walk during a day of drizzle.
The day started at the Henley showground at 8:00am with an aerobic warm up session and by 8:15am we were off – up hill and down dale (again and again!) until we had all finally reached Princes Risborough some 13.5 hours later. It is a beautiful area even in the rain.
Wayne crossed the line first an impressive 6 hours before the last of us, he does do Iron Man and triathlons by the way! Tim, through sheer grit and determination, as every step of the last 10k was pure agony, crossed the line with his wife Jo and I at 20:45.
Everyone in the team had to dig deep through a mixture of injuries to heels, toes, calves, thighs, hips, bums (and other regions that we are of course too polite to mention!) – but we got the job done.
In the process we raised over £2,000 for Alzheimer’s and Ali and Amy also raised a further £800 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
There was some laughter along the way, particularly when Tim turned to me to ask, “which charity are we raising money for, I can’t remember?” Hopefully they find a cure soon!
I am pretty sure the overwhelming feeling that all of us had when crossing that Finish Line was “thank the Lord we didn’t sign up for the 100k!” Well done and complete respect for anyone out there that did.
Not only did Lime Blue Walkers complete a huge challenge but they showed real team spirit insisting on staying at the finish line to welcome the last of us in even though it meant being there in the rain and starting to seize up when they could have been at the pub or home in the bath. Thank you – we did appreciate it.
It was all worth it, despite having to crawl up the stairs on all fours on Sunday!
Well done Lime Blue Walkers: Wayne, Harriet, Luke, Jo, Barry, Phil, Clive, Ali, Amy, Jo and Tim I am so proud of each and every one of us!
A BIG THANK YOU also goes to all our sponsors and to Action Challenge who put on a great event.
